Mindfulness Intermediate Course

Date: 24th November 2017 Time: 9.00am - 4.30pm

For Primary and Secondary Teachers: 1 Day Teacher Training

Who is this course for?

The course is suitable for those who have completed an Introduction course and for practitioners to deepen their current mindfulness practice and to learn to apply the skills to daily life, particularly in stressful and difficult situations. It is not a therapeutic programme.

Why do this course?

The evidence-based course is designed to provide participants with some intermediate techniques to develop their own mindfulness practice and to begin to recognise how these techniques may be used in an educational setting to help them cope with stressful and difficult situations as well as the potential to enhance their own performance. Participants will have an opportunity to engage with and explore each mindfulness technique so that they can take these personal skills back to their everyday mindfulness practice.

Details of the course

The course is based on scientific evidence from psychology, education and neuroscience along with the fundamental principles of mindfulness- based cognitive therapy (MBCT); including research with school students and teachers.

The course will cover:

  • Review and expansion of the mindfulness skills and techniques that participants can use in school environments in difficult and stressful situations
  • Learning the stages of the mindfulness techniques and trying out the techniques themselves.
  • A personal developmental mindfulness program, with a workbook, to help cope with difficulties and stress – with activities each day for the 4 weeks following the course and beyond.
  • Consideration of mindfulness courses that can be used with infant, primary and secondary students with an understanding of the potential for linking these mindfulness courses to the NSW school curriculum.

It is useful to bring a mat and a cushion, for the activities we will do on the floor.

Expected Outcomes

The intermediate course is the second and final part to the course: Mindfulness: finding peace in a frantic world. It provides the opportunity for the further development of a personal mindfulness practice alongside an understanding of how mindfulness skills may be used in difficult and stressful situations.

This comprehensive course is designed to be the second course for teachers in a series and provides a pre-requisite for other mindfulness training programs.
